Don’t let this happen to your property. Let Mike’s help you and get a FREE ONLINE ESTIMATE NOW!

Deck Cleaning
Approximately once a year the deck should be thoroughly cleaned. Cleaning involves the removal of pollen, dirt, algae, grease, red clay and other foreign substances. We use sodium per carbonate to clean the wood surface because not only is it safe for plants and shrubs, but it completely removes organic stains and kills algae and mildew on contact. After cleaning the deck it is important to use a brightener, which neutralizes the sodium per carbonate, to bring the wood back to a neutral pH level. This also brightens and evens out the coloration of the wood, allowing for a more uniform finish.
Deck Staining
We use quality deck stains that will provide protection for the wood and enhance the natural appearance of the wood. Deck stains help to minimize rotting and decay of the wood while preserving the wood lignin and strengthening the cellular structure through trans oxides and resins. Most quality deck stains will provide color and protection for 2-3 years, depending upon exposure and conditions. A properly applied coat of a quality stain that is maintained on a scheduled basis will dramatically extend the life of any wood deck.

Mike’s 9 Steps to a Properly Restored Deck
- We will a provide a guaranteed written estimate of all work to be done.
- We remove all furniture, thermometers, tables, grills, etc., to a safe place in the yard.
- We gently wash your deck with a deck cleaner, NOT BLEACH.
- Next the wood is brightened with a neutralizing agent to prepare it for a stain.
- After several days drying, the moisture content is checked so the wood will absorb the stain properly.
- If necessary, we will sand any handrails and seats.
- Before staining, we protect all plants and shrubs by wetting and covering anything that could be covered or killed by the stain.
- We then seal/stain your deck with an oil based stain, which we warrant against peeling or cracking. The stain provides protection against moisture and UV damage for up to 2 years.
- We install a new rain gauge and place all furniture back in place.
